Hey Reader! You don't know what you don't know. (For example, you don't know that at the end of this email I'm going to make you a terrific offer. You're going to want to get in on it quickly, because the price is going up soon, and it's going to help you write and send better emails.) ๐ช This not-knowing has been following me around for the past couple of weeks. First it popped up at work; I was super excited to share a new thing I'd learned only to discover that everyone else on my team had known about it for years. ๐ Then there's managing a malfunctioning appliance, which I tend to think operates on a rare combination of electricity and magic. I don't even know where to begin when something goes wrong. ๐คท๐ปโโ๏ธ And it's the same in nearly every endeavor; you jump in with Big Puppy Energy, all excited to start, then you quickly get bogged down in details you never even knew existed. Like, do I really need to learn the ins and outs of three different online platforms in order to get paid for work I completed months ago? Seems I do. If you're lucky, when you start a new job you have a seasoned coworker teaching you the ropes. But when you go into business for yourself, there is SO MUCH you don't know. ๐ณ And you may not have people around who can point out what you're failing to take into account. Maybe you hire a coach. But even that person probably doesn't know everything you're contending with. You'll just have to keep crossing bridges as you come to them and learning as you go and hoping that the path becomes clearer with time. This is where specialized help can really make a difference. Guidance, advice, knowledge that you haven't acquired yet. ๐คจ For example, did you know that your email platform probably offers A/B testing on subject lines? ๐ง Because those really do make a difference when it comes to your open rate. Great subject line = many opens. Ho hum subject line? People are inclined to skip over your email. A/B testing allows you to try out at least two different subject lines. The system sends emails out to a portion of your list (20%, I think). Half get one subject line, half get the other. ๐ก After a predetermined amount of time the little robot in your platform chooses the most successful one and uses it when it sends your email to the rest of your recipients. If you didn't know before, you do now! Writing a good email isn't hard, but there are aspects to formatting, writing and sending you may not have thought of. Which is where I come in ๐, with years of experience and a stupid amount of time spent reading about and experimenting with the best way to write and send email.
