quitting is for quitters

Hey Reader!

I almost dropped out of college at the end of my sophomore year.

It's fair to say that I was an indifferent student, by which I mean I worked at the things that interested me and struggled to stay focused on the things that did not.

I went to this school with a weird structure - only one class at a time, for three and a half weeks, then a long weekend and on to the next thing. I used to blame my inability to stay focused on that, but in retrospect I guess I just have ADHD.

Maybe it was actually the perfect place for someone who struggles to stay on task.

Anyway! I hated being a student, at least the academic part - otherwise college was kind of a nonstop funfest.

My father convinced me to stay in school; he warned me that if I didn't finish then I'd likely never come back to it, and I think he was right. I kept at it and graduated and have never looked back, by which I mean I've never been tempted to get another degree.

One thing that made finishing college possible despite my struggle with staying consistent within a foreign structure (class every morning - what?) was that everyone else was doing it, too.

Admittedly others were doing it more effectively, but I’m sure there were those who struggled even more than me.

But the cool thing about college is that you're in a community of people who are also going to class every day and writing papers regularly and taking exams at the same time and are generally stretching their brains alongside you.

There's nothing like being part of a cohort to keep you going when you want to quit.

That's the whole idea behind Consistency Club, which could as easily be called Let's Get It Done Together, or Time to Write, or Hey, It's Work Time or any number of other things.

At Consistency Club we sit down together and do some writing. We also do a little bit of talking; you can state your goals for the day or ask for feedback on a project.

But mostly it's taking an hour out of the week to sit still and get some damned writing done, whether that's in your journal or for your business. We'd love to have you join us! We meet every Wednesday at 10 am Pacific time via Zoom.

It's simple, it's easy, and it's amazing what you can accomplish in an hour when you're in a group of likeminded people.

Yours in staying in it, even when it's kind of boring,

Julia
