Weird trait for a rebel

Hey Reader!

I carry a heavy load of youngest-child don’t-tell-me-what-to-do. That, plus maybe a hint of ADHD, keep me on the rebel’s edge.

Ask for forgiveness, not permission. When I heard that phrase it was like someone gave me a personal catchphrase.

I’ll do it my way, thanks.

Which is maybe why my colleagues at various jobs are surprised when I volunteer to write SOPs for every conceivable task.

Last week at my thank-you-for-the-health-insurance job I suggested writing out processes for some of our regular undertakings. I was met with the usual disinterest.

I’ve noticed that when people are good at a thing they underrate the importance of writing the steps down. And heaven forbid I suggest making a screen recording of a daily online task.

You’d think I was asking everyone to dress like dinosaurs and attempt a viral video.

In fact, they might like that idea - Halloween is coming…

But! I retain my love for written processes.

Because as much as I love to do things my own way, it’s so much easier to follow a list of steps than to try to remember what I saw someone do, or to put my hastily scrawled definitely-missing-at-least-one-detail notes into action.

Let me use my brain for creativity, not mundanity. Once I’ve got the system down I’ll see what I can do to improve it. Or make up my own version!

This is why I developed a set of newsletter templates. Called, impressively, the Newsletter Template Pack.

When you’re sitting down to capture your brilliant thoughts you don’t want to waste a whole lot of brainpower deciding in what order to write them.

Templates tell you what goes where, depending on what your particular email is trying to achieve.

And of course I can’t help telling you what to do teaching, so I've included a ton of information about how to make your email readable and compelling and fun.

Email is the best tool to reach your audience. Templates can make that easier. And who doesn’t love easy?

Check out the Newsletter Template Pack, a steal at $22, if I do say so myself.

And thanks to everyone I saw at the Energy Exchange in Portland last night! What a terrific group.

If you’re a small business owner living in the PDX metro area do yourself a favor and get to the next Energy Exchange. It’s networking for people who love real connection, and every session is pure magic.

Signing off now to follow up with some of the marvelous peeps I met last night. Because I think that’s what I’m supposed to do? Look at me following the rules! 😁

Yours in writing it down,

Julia

Pam Tillis doesn't like to be told what to do, and neither does this email. Forward it to your favorite rebel.
